Good place to start for a Thai noob.... 5 Months ago
Hiya! I've been lookiing to take a trip somewhere in the far east for a while, I've got the opportunity to take a few weeks out and finally get out there. I'm in my early 30s and would like to see as much as possible within this time. What is most important is to get the chance to do some hiking/trekking and spend some nights on beaches. It seems the North and Eastern areas should satisfy this, with a few days in Bangkok an obviuos must.
How safe is it for someone on their own to just turn up and do some trekking? The travel to different regions wouldn't bother me, but going out for a hike by myself in a foreign country might not be a good idea. Is it easy to meet people out there and arrange things? I know a couple people who've been out there and they rave on about how great it was; however they're more into partying and although an all night beach party would be sweet, I'd also like to see other things.
How about getting into hostels and one night accomodation... are there tourist offices where you can turn up and get the info you need to head off?
Any suggestions would be appreciated, it looks an amazing place and any advice from someone who's been there would help me allllot!
