Phuket is the largest island in Thailand and is surrounded by smaller islands like Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta. Phuket draws the most tourists and sometimes gets overcrowded. Damage from the Tsunami has been restored.
Hotels on Phuket can be found here.

How to get there You can either go by plane or bus from Bangkok. Plane tickets can be booked online at One2Go with prices around 4000 bath for a return ticket, look for promotion fares. The flight takes around one hour and 30 minutes, that's much better than the other option, by bus. You can take a bus from Ekamai station again or book a ticket on Khao San but traveling to Phuket by bus is not advisable since it takes around 15 hours! By the time you get of the bus you're so wasted that you spend the next day in bed. For the real buslovers: tickets go for around 1000 bath. Once you arrive at the airport you have to get into town, there are taxis's that take you for 400-500 bath and if you are with a bigger crowd you can get a minivan for 100 bath a person. The beaches are a little bit further and thus more expensive.
Once you get there: You can either choose to stay in the town or on one of the beaches. The most popular beach is Patong in the west of the island, here you find a vibrant nightlife as well as many watersport activities.
If you prefer a more quiet place to stay pick one of the other beaches or go to one of the islands around Phuket.
