Brown Sugar
Chill out bar with live performances, often Jazz music.
Nest to Lumpini Park on the street connecting Wireless and Ratchadamri Road. One of the oldest pubs in Bangkok and winner of several awards, most bars on this street change every couple of months but Brown Sugar has been around for a while. And for a good reason, great place for a quiet nice out.

Food is good and reasonably priced, drinks are rather expensive however.

New Year’s Eve 2009, I had the opportunity to visit Brown Sugar and was severely disappointed in every aspect. The staff was not well trained, service was lacking, and under the stressful economic conditions the Brown Sugar’s staff are not the most honest.

The music was reasonable but nothing to go out of your way for. Service was very slow for initial order and a wait of up to 25 minutes to get a hamburger. For a hamburger that cost me almost $5 it was a disappointment on every level – it was more like something from a fast food dollar menu.

The management was indifferent to customer service and seemed to be disorganized. Most likely this is the difficulty faced by the staff. Having lived in Bangkok for a number of years I found the experience on the seedy side of the tracks. In other words, your better off going somewhere else – and if you do insist on going to Brown Sugar make sure you count your change.

My last time in Bangkok I tried to find Brown Sugar. The taxi men in that area said it was a gay bar and totally discouraged me. I am very disappointed because I am a jazz lover but not familiar with the atmosphere in a gay bar.
